Back to HomeSummit Legal emerged from a straightforward observation: many clients in British Columbia's innovation economy needed legal support that understood both the technical requirements of proper documentation and the practical constraints of early-stage operations. Traditional law firm structures often seemed misaligned with the pace and resource limitations these clients faced.
Founded in Vancouver in 2018, our practice developed around three core service areas where we saw consistent need: tech startup formation and intellectual property foundations, BC Provincial Nominee Program immigration pathways, and commercial dispute resolution through mediation. These areas shared a common thread—they required both technical legal knowledge and practical understanding of how businesses and individuals actually navigate complex processes.
The name "Summit Legal" reflects our philosophical approach rather than suggesting we're at any pinnacle. Legal work, like mountain navigation, involves careful route planning, awareness of conditions, appropriate preparation, and realistic assessment of what lies ahead. We aim to be the knowledgeable guide who helps you understand the terrain, prepare appropriately, and make informed decisions about your path forward.
Our mission centers on providing legal advisory services that balance thoroughness with pragmatism. Our trust accounting, conflicts management, and professional liability insurance meet regulatory requirements.
Solicitor-client privilege protects communications and information shared with our firm. We maintain secure document management systems, conduct thorough conflicts checks before accepting engagements, and clearly communicate any limitations on confidentiality (such as mandatory reporting requirements). Client files receive careful attention to information security throughout the engagement and after completion.
Our approach to legal documentation balances completeness with clarity. We draft agreements and applications that address necessary legal requirements while remaining comprehensible to clients. All significant advice and recommendations are documented in writing. We maintain organized file systems that allow efficient reference and retrieval when needed, whether during active matters or years later.

Founding Principal
Called to the BC bar in 2014, David practiced corporate law at a downtown firm before establishing Summit Legal. His focus areas include technology company formation, commercial agreements, and intellectual property foundations. He holds a JD from UBC and regularly speaks at startup events about legal considerations for early-stage companies.
Immigration Counsel
Sarah specializes in BC Provincial Nominee Program applications and work permit matters. Called to the bar in 2016, she brings fluency in processing patterns across different PNP streams and maintains current knowledge of program changes. She previously worked with immigration counsel in Toronto before relocating to Vancouver. Her approach emphasizes realistic timeline planning and thorough application preparation.
Dispute Resolution Associate
James focuses on commercial mediation and alternative dispute resolution. Called to the bar in 2017, he trained in traditional litigation before transitioning to collaborative resolution approaches. He holds mediation certification through the ADR Institute of BC and brings particular insight to disputes where ongoing business relationships matter. His background includes both plaintiff and defense perspectives.
Corporate Associate
Emily joined Summit Legal in 2021 after call to the bar. She assists with startup incorporations, share structure implementations, and commercial contract review. Her work includes drafting employment agreements, contractor arrangements, and data privacy documentation. She previously articled with a business law firm and brings careful attention to documentation detail while understanding startup resource constraints.
Immigration Associate
Michael supports BC PNP applications and work permit processing. He joined the firm in 2022 after completing his articles. His background includes technology sector work experience before law school, providing practical context for understanding tech worker immigration pathways. He maintains current knowledge of IRCC processing procedures and program requirement updates.
